Practical Application in Sports Medicine will stretch your mind and enhance your skill set. This year we will be attacking injuries from all direction, from some things you have heard about and some that are not even on the market yet.  You will be able to choose what will and will not work for your occupational environment. As always we will have a core content of information you will be able to leave and put right to use. We are going to teach about the controversial subjects like concussions and heat. The concussion rules have been out for a couple years now and the questions and answers this course will provide are:  have these rules made a difference and then how do you put in a concussion program for your athletes, coaches, administrators, and parents that they will buy into? R. Dawn Comstock, PhD one of the leader in concussion research will share her information with us. How will you inform your, parents, administrators, other healthcare providers and finally the public in your area? Chris Marker, DO and Jim Winn, MED, ATC, PTA will walk through how The SPORT Clinic implements a concussion program.

We are bringing one of the leaders in heat complications, Sandra Fowkes-Godek, PhD, ATC  to one of the hottest place in the US to talk establishing practical plans for heat problems from someone that is out there working every day.

You cannot go a day without hearing of a coach or teacher making the news about sexual misconduct, we will have one of the leaders in the field, Jeff Konin, PhD, ATC, PT, FACSM, FNATA  share his expertise about the problems of sexual misconduct, whistle blowing and the hazing problem.

The specific injures we will attach will be the knee and the hip led by orthopaedic surgeons Jerome F. Wall, MD and Brent d’Arc MD. With the use of a cadaver dissection they will make you more comfortable with your evaluations. Then once you understand the knowledge of the diagnostic we are bringing in William Prentice, PhD, ATC, PT, FNATA one of the leaders in sports medicine in to provide the integrated rehabilitation program. This will emphasizes improving function by doing things to increase nervous system efficiency as opposed to always concentrating on only the muscular and articular systems in rehabilitation.

David Ruiz, MS, ATC, Cert. MDT will introduce many of you to the McKenzie Method another tool to add to your toolbox. Ellen Coleman,. RD, MA, MPH will discuss the new guidelines for pre and post event means and the concussion of carbohydrates. Alan Russell, MS, ATC, PES, CES, NASM CPT from NASM will share his keen insight in the integrated approach of the knee and hip while Andy Paulin, BS, ATC will share his many years of expertise on how to set up the sideline to on the field evaluation and decisions.
