ScholarshipsThrough the efforts of The SPORT Foundation we have been able to provide over $95,000 in academic scholarships to students in athletics and those entering the field of sports medicine. We like to see individuals who display leadership and the ability to work with others, have shown reasonable academic achievements and have shown a desire to succeed while acting as a positive role model. Scholarships, listed below, are awarded annually in June. Click here for an application. The Rose & Frank Wolsztyniak Memorial Scholarship ($500.00)The Frank and Rose Wolsztyniak Memorial Scholarship went to Veronika Staffel of Norco High School. She will be attending University California, Riverside this fall majoring in language arts and social sciences. In high school she had a GPR of 3.87 that placed her in the top 9% of her class. In elementary school, she was diagnosed with dyslexia and received RSP assistance up through intermediate school. She transitioned from this program to take honors courses in high school She has numerous accolades and achievements in academics and athletics. She played softball, soccer, track and tennis. In addition to these achievements, she has participated in training for Teen Violence Prevention and has volunteered at True Innocence Equine Rescue. ($500.00) The Barbara Clover James Memorial ScholarshipThis year's scholarshop went to Larissa Lucas from San Gorgonio High School. She will be attending Hawaii Pacific University and study psychology. This scholarship is awarded to an individual who strives to be an instructor, developer and builder of the Minds of Children. The recipient is expected to give perspective to their reality as well as leading by example and inspiring those they are associated with. In January of 2004 during her sophomore year of high school, she lost her mother to an unknown cause and stated that it changed her whole life in small and large ways. In her scholarship essay, she said, “My mother inspired me to want a career I can interact with people or help people because I love helping people.” She wants to help children understand there is always someone worse off and to go out and make the best of life! She had a 3.67 GPA while playing two sports. She was on the National Honor Society, Harvard Model Congress and Associate Student Body. ($500.00) The Sorts Medicine Scholarship (2 at $500.00)The first Sports Medicine Scholarship winner was Jaclynn Johnson from Martin Luther King High School. She will be attending USC the fall majoring in Neuroscience. She has a cumulative GPA of 4.35 and was her high schools salutatorian. Academically she was a California Scholarship Federation member where she is an honorary seal bearer as a life member. Some of her high school athletic and academic awards included: Scholar Athlete, Coaches Award, Superintendent’s Award of Academic Excellence and the President’s Award of Academic Excellent. She is a member of her high schools champion golf team and played on the CIF quarter finalist softball team. Outside of school, she is active in her church where she teaches the special needs Sunday school class. ($500.00) The second Sports Medicine Scholarship winner was Jessica Bear from Poly High School and is now attending Wagner College majoring in chemistry where she hopes to become an Orthopaedic surgeon. At Riverside Poly she achieved a GPA of 4.3 and at Wagner College she has already made the dean’s list 4 semesters in a row and received the Presidential scholarship and was asked to join the ODK a leadership honor society. ($500.00) The Inland Empire All-Star Football Classic Scholarship (2 @ $1,000.00 each)The Riverside County All-Star Scholarship winner was Jeff Fraga from Centennial High School in Corona. He will be attending Cal Poly San Luis Obispo this fall majoring in Electrical Engineering. He was chosen as the Player of the Year twice and has been the captain of his football team and received athletic honors such as: Defensive Payer of the year, most im0proved, first team all county and first team all league. His high school teachers stated that his determination and self-discipline were extraordinary not only did he never miss an assignment; he would successfully complete his work while balancing a grueling schedule of football practice and working two part time jobs. ($1,000.00) The San Bernardino County All-Star Scholarship winner was Brandon Boehm from Serrano High School. He will be attending Whittier College. His athletic director said “He is one of the hardest working and reliable individuals I avhe ever been associated with.” He was the leading tackler on his CIF Championship Football Team and was selected First Team All League and First Team all County. ($1,000.00) |
